Art Classes for Adults, Youth and Children

–The White Bear Center for the Arts (WBCA) offers fun and educational art classes throughout the year for adults, youth and children. All Art Center instructors are experienced professionals in the field they are teaching. Classes are discounted for WBCA members. Lakeside Watercolor with Paula Lundquist
This class explores nature as we bring paints, paper and pencils with us to the shores of White Bear Lake. We will learn to see with the artist’s eye and create exciting paintings. In case the weather isn’t nice, we will be doing our watercolors indoors at the WBCA.

Fun with Acrylic Painting with Jennifer LaCasse
Anyone can be a painter! Students will explore basic painting techniques as well as the endless possibilities of acrylic paint. Students will learn color mixing, how to paint what they see, and even dive into abstraction. Students will also play with adding mediums to our paint to get special effects like texture. Wear clothes that can get messy.

Age: 10+, Date/Time: August 14, 15, 16, 12:30-3:00 PM

The Perpetual Art Class: All Media, All the Time! with Susan Fryer Voigt
This class incorporates painters of every level in a fun, relaxed atmosphere. Students will learn about color, line, perspective, values, composition, framing and marketing. All water-based media are welcome, or students may use pastels, water-soluble oils or regular oils with an odorless solvent. Advance registration required as this class requires a 10 person minimum.

Clay - One on One with Sue Kapsner
This class is a chance to try working with clay without committing to a four week class. Students can take a one hour, one on one lesson on the wheel, or bring a few friends for a small group lesson. Time and date can be arranged by student and teacher based on availability.

Friday Clay Studio with Sally Brown
Sally will start with demonstrations of bowls, plates, mugs, vases, etc., alternating thrown pieces with handbuilding and glazing techniques and/or requests. Individual attention will then be given to each student. From beginner to advanced, students will work on increasing their skills. All materials- clay, glazes and firing are included.

Silver Tube Beads with Kim Bakken-Parr
In this class students will learn how to design their own beautiful, unique silver beads using Precious Metal Clay (PMC). These beads are great for creating necklaces, bracelets and even ankle bracelets. You can string them on a chain, leather, fabric, or anything you think of. Bring your own stringing medium, or there will be different mediums available for purchase in class. This is a great class for the beginning student who wants to explore this new art medium.

Iron Pour-3-D Sculpture
For those who choose to take their metal to the next level. This is a truly unique opportunity to work one-on-one with members of FEFA (Foundry Education Fine Arts) in creating 3-D iron sculpture using a multiple mold technique. You will learn how to create a mold from your “positive” and have the opportunity to be a part of the foundry team at the Iron Pour on September 29.
Date/Time: 4 Saturdays, August 18 & 25, September 1 & 8, 6:30-8:30 PM
Age/Level: Adults, Teens 16+, limited to 12 participants
Tuition: $60 Member/$75 Non-Member (Does NOT include all materials. Additional fees per project.)
