Summer ART Classes for Kids Offered
at the White Bear Center for the Arts

– Fun summer art classes for kids are being offered at the White Bear center for the Arts (WBCA). Contact the WBCA at wbca@whitebeararts.org or 651-407-0597 for more information or to register or visit our website www.whitebeararts.org. Please register at least one week prior to the class start date. All classes are located at the WBCA, 2228 Fourth Street

White Bear Lake, MN 55110 (in the White Bear Lake Armory Building). Directions and a map are on the WBCA website www.whitebeararts.org.

NOTE: LUNCH BREAKS - A supervised lunch time is offered for students who take both morning and afternoon classes. Bring a bag lunch. Students are also encouraged to bring a snack for a short break.

Famous Abstract Artists-How to Think and Draw Beyond What You See with Tim Hudson
This class will look at different abstract forms of art from paintings to collages to sculptures. After getting an idea for how these artists made their work and what they mean, we will try to make some of our own.
Age 7+: 3 Mondays, June 11, 18 & 25, 1:00-2:30 PM
Tuition: $36 Member/$45 Non-Member

Animals and their Environments with Tim Hudson
Learn to draw animals from around the world and the places they live. Everywhere from Africa to Antarctica, students will explore large and small animals.
Age 6+: June 12, 13 & 14, 1:00-2:30 PM
Tuition: $36 Member/$45 Non-Member

Lakeside Watercolor with Paula Lundquist
Explore nature as we bring paints, paper and pencils with us to the shores of White Bear Lake. Learn how to see with the artist’s eye and create exciting paintings. In case the weather isn’t nice, we will be doing our watercolors indoors at the WBCA.
Age 7 +: June 18 & 26, 10:00 AM- 12:30 PM
Tuition: $40 Memeber/$50 non-member

Animal Art and Portrait Drawing with Cassandra Monson
Learn the tricks and techniques to drawing realistic portraits and painting colorful animals while experimenting with oil pastels, colored pencils, watercolor paints and clay. Students will also learn the simple steps to making a realistic animal painting and build small animal sculptures.
All Ages: June 19, 20, 21, 9:30 – 12:00 Noon
Tuition: $60 Member/$75 non-member

Explore Australian and African Art with Cassandra Monson
In this three-day class students will study the traditional arts of ancient African and Australian cultures. Students will draw and paint, build masterpiece African masks and create beautiful Australian rain sticks. Join us for a journey across the ocean as we explore and create amazing art!
All Ages: June 19, 20, 21, 12:30 – 3:00 PM
Tuition: $60 Member/$75 non-member

Elementary Figure Drawing: The Human Body in Motion with Tim Hudson
Learn to draw baseball players, skateboarders, runners, swimmers, and other active bodies. Through studying photographs and videos, we will learn to understand how the body moves and how to capture its motion.
Age 6+: June 19, 20 & 21, 3:15-4:15 PM

Drawing Monsters, Dragons and Creepy Creatures with Chris Winn
Weird and loony fantasy fun is at the tip of your pencil. Learn how to make the silly ideas in your head come to life. Students will be able to tell fantastic stories with their art. This class will use all sorts of fun and colorful material.
All Ages: 2 Saturdays, June 23 & 30, 9:30-11:30 AM
Tuition: $32 Member/$40 Non-Member

Invent with Clay with Sue Kapsner
Students will learn the secrets of getting clay to mold to their ideas. They will learn many handbuilding techniques they can use to form sculpture, bowls, masks or wall art. Students with previous experience can learn new techniques.
Age 10+: June 26 & 27, 9:30 – 12:00 Noon
Age 6-9: June 26 & 27, 12:30 – 3:00 PM

Draw the World! with Jennifer LaCasse
This is a class for serious beginners and will cover the major principles of drawing from observation. Students will learn line, shape, value, perspective and proportion. The class will begin with still life, and then move onto landscape. Each day will be a complete lesson if students are unable to attend all three days.
Age 6-9: June 26, 27, 28, 9:30 – 12:00 Noon
Age 10+: June 26, 27, 28, 12:30 – 3:00 PM

Drawing Shapes in Nature with Tim Hudson
Explore the world around you and discover the shapes that create familiar sights. Learn to see circles in cats, ovals in an octopus, rectangles in rabbits, triangles in trees, and many others.
Age 6+: June 26, 27 & 28, 3:15-4:15 PM
Tuition: $24 Member/$30 Non-Member

Felt Making with Sue Kapsner
The art of making felt from sheep’s wool goes back through the beginning of civilization and is still used today. Three techniques will be taught in a sampler square followed by making a felt bag or wall hanging. This is not fabric store felt.
Age Ages 8 +: June 28, 9:30 – 12:00 Noon
Tuition: $20 Member/$25 non-member

Drawing on the Wild Side with Sue Kapsner
Inspired by the imaginative tale written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak, Where the Wild Things Are, young artists will learn drawing techniques, use of texture and perspective as they draw their own "Wild Thing". Students will use pencil, marker, colored pencil and crayon to make a fun, colorful art work.
Ages 5-8: June 28, 12:30 – 3:00 PM
Tuition: $20 Member/$25 non-member
