COOL Summer ART Classes are HOT at the White Bear Center for the Arts

5/17/07
White Bear Lake, MN
– Hot off the press and also available online 24/7! Get your copy of The White Bear Center for the Arts (WBCA) summer 2007 catalog of community art classes or checkout www.whitebeararts.org to see a full listing of kids, youth and adult art classes online.

Fire up the torch and create unique glass beads for jewelry in “Lampworking Glass.” It’s fun, easy and addicting! Why stop there? Make a beautiful silver pendant, earrings or bracelet in a “Silversmithing” or “Leaves of Silver” PMC class. Our big kilns will be fired up and ready to super heat a colorful “Fused Glass Plate” or fire a hand thrown pot in “Clay-One on One.” Watch as the heat, fire and flames transform recycled iron into a 10” x 10” tile or 3-D sculpture of your design in “Iron Pour Tile” or “Iron 3-D Sculpture.” More sparks will fly at a family friendly “Raku Fire” July 12th during White Bear Marketfest. Glaze your own pot or tile to be fired that evening, or just come and watch the fascinating 500 year old Japanese ceramic art process. All the WBCA classes rock, especially “Stone Sculpting Alabaster” where you will learn sculpting basics by carving a piece of alabaster using a hammer and chisels.

If the heat’s not your thing then chill in a watercolor class and learn to paint “Water & Reflections.” Or capture the feeling of a cool, summer morning at the lake in “Plein Aire (Outdoor) Painting” or the rolling countryside in “Summer Landscapes.” Have you ever wanted to try oil paints but are turned off by solvents? Then check out “Try It…You Might Like It…Water Miscible Oil” with no fumes and toxins to breathe. Make a splash at the Art Center in “Mosaic Backsplash Project” and create an individual mosaic tile and install a larger permanent tile mosaic in the WBCA art studio. If a camera is your art tool of choice “Developing Artistic Vision with Photography” will help you train your eye to take better photographs. Now that you’ve created all those beautiful watercolors, paintings, drawings, prints or photographs, learn how to frame them inexpensively yourself in “Basic Picture Framing.”

Creative writers, dancers, printers, illustrators, sketchbook artists and multimedia artists, we have classes for you, too. The WBCA promises to be a great place to find hot and cool art projects this summer for the entire family. Contact the WBCA at wbca@whitebeararts.org or 651-407-0597 for more information or visit our website www.whitebeararts.org.
