34th Annual Northern Lights Exhibit

EXHIBITION DATES
April 16 through May 11, 2007
Century College, West Campus, Theater Lobby Gallery
3300 Century Avenue North, West Campus, White Bear Lake

For the past 34 years, the WBCA has sponsored this prestigious juried fine arts exhibition which draws more than 250 entries by artists from Minnesota and Wisconsin. The exhibit, held in conjunction with Century College, is open to artists residing in Minnesota and Wisconsin. Recent and original drawings, paintings, hand-pulled prints, photography, fiber and sculpture are accepted. A panel of judges will select the works to be displayed at Century College. An artist application and submission guidelines (slides only) will be mailed late December or are available by calling 651.407.0597.

2007 JUDGES BIOS

Paul Dols
Paul photographs people, news, events and sports for six newspapers covering the northeast metro area communities of White Bear Lake, Stillwater, North Oaks, Shoreview, Lino Lakes, Centerville, Circle Pines, Lexington and Forest Lake. In 2006 he received first place awards from the Minnesota chapter of The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), for pictorial, sports photography and art and illustration and second place for feature photography. His work has also been recognized for excellence by The National Newspaper Association (NNA), The Minnesota Newspaper Association (MNA) and The Minnesota Free Paper Association (MFPA). Paul attended the University of Minnesota and studied photojournalism, studio arts (painting, sculpture and photography) and foreign studies.

Ann Ledy
Ann is the newly appointed President and Chief Academic Officer of the College of Visual Arts in St. Paul. She graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor in Fine Arts degree and went on for a Master in Fine Arts degree in Painting from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, New York. Her long career in higher education began in 1979 at Parsons School of Design in New York City, where for twenty-five years she taught drawing, and served as department chair of the first year Foundation Program. Her works on paper can be found in many collections including Havard University Fogg Art Museum, the Museum of Modern Art, the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC, the Walker Art Center, and Yale University Art Gallery.

Ken Wenzel
Ken Wenzel teaches in the art program at Century College in White Bear Lake. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree with honors in 1983 from The School of Visual Arts in New York City and completed his Master of Fine Arts in Painting at the San Francisco Art Institute in 1989. Ken has lectured and taught drawing at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts since 1990, and for a number of years taught painting and figure drawing classes at several community art centers. From 2003 to 2006 he served as an adjunct faculty member in the art department at Minneapolis Community and Technical College. His work has been exhibited and collected regionally and nationally. Shows include; The Bowery Gallery in New York, The Phipps Center for the Arts in Hudson Wisconsin and No Name Gallery at The Soap Factory in Minneapolis Minnesota.
