“We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It’s easy to say ‘It’s not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.’ Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.”
- Mr. (Fred McFeely) Rogers, 1928-2003
Dear Friends,
Ok, so what does the above quote have to do with the White Bear Center for the Arts? The WBCA is a community, non-profit organization which means this is YOUR art center. We wouldn’t be here without the heroes that once saw the need for a local arts organization and made it happen by forming the White Bear Arts Council, back in 1968. We are still here, almost 40 years later because
heroes keep responding! Board members and volunteers keep responding with precious amounts of their time. Individuals and businesses keep responding with precious dollars needed to fund our events and operations. We need you to be a part of keeping the arts alive.
Coming in July is our most important fundraiser of the year. It’s new, it’s exciting, it’s all about artists making art! It’s ART WATCH and it’s a great opportunity for you to be involved.
ART WATCH will take place over several days, allowing for hundreds and maybe thousands of people to see what we are all about. We have invited over 40 artists working in all types of media to set up working studios in the Armory for 3 days, starting on July 11. Over the next 2 days, the public is invited to come in and watch, visit with the artists and observe the evolution of art being
created.
ART WATCH will feature a raku firing in front of the Armory Thursday evening during Marketfest. We will provide pre-fired pots to purchase which you can glaze and fire raku style that night!
ART WATCH artists will each donate one piece of art created during the week for our silent auction gala event on Saturday July 14th. The Gala will represent the vast creativity and talents of the artists, with a grand finale to a spectacular week. The Gala requires the purchase of a ticket (tax deductible), which will include scrumptious hors d’oeuvres, wine/beer/soda bar, live
music and a beautiful gallery of original art for sale. Tickets are available June 1st.
We need lots of volunteers! We need lots of sponsors! We need to sell lots of tickets! What can you do? Buy a ticket. Call us to volunteer. Tell your friends. Ask your business to become a sponsor. Come one, come all! It’s a great chance to be a hero for the arts!
