Fall 2007

“We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It’s easy to say ‘It’s not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem.’ Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.”

- Mr. (Fred McFeely) Rogers, 1928-2003

Greetings art lovers!

Many artists define artistic process to be more akin to discovery than to creating: that the final art piece is already there, patiently waiting for us to find our way to it. So wait no more, we have so much art ready to be discovered by you here, this fall!

Our workshops for both iron tiles and 3D mold making are underway for the Iron Pour coming on September 29th, but it’s not too late to jump in (see page 8). If you are interested, call us today! We’ll get you started!

New in September is Stone Sculpting, School of Ballet, Art Licensing classes and more. In Stone Sculpting, students will learn how to reveal art forms hidden inside the beautifully translucent medium of alabaster. As Michelangelo said, “Carving is easy, you just go down to the skin and stop.” So come learn the secrets of the old masters.

The benefits of studying ballet can last a lifetime and the WBCA is proud to introduce the School of Ballet for children ages 5-13. These classes are reflective of the American style of ballet inspired by Vaganava and Cecchetti tradition and will emphasize musicality and artistic expression in a non-competitive atmosphere. We also offer preschool creative movement and ballet and jazz classes for adults. A flexible body is not required to join the adult classes; however a flexible mind does help!

So if you are sad to see the fading days of summer, come discover art this fall at the White Bear Center for the Arts. Your new friends and creative journey will have you finding art everywhere, everyday!

A special thank-you to Andy Vollbrecht, our summer intern! Andy is majoring in business management, at St. John’s University. He interned 150 hours with the WBCA this summer assisting with ArtWatch, Summer Sandcastles, kids classes, general office work and assembling an Economic Impact of the Arts on Community study for the WBCA. Thanks again, Andy! Best wishes for your senior year!
