The White Bear Center for the Arts will stress variety and community involvement at its Art Watch fundraising event next month.
In past years, the center's fundraising events have focused on auctions of paintings. This year there will be sculptors, jewelry makers, silversmiths and multimedia artists showcased, in addition to painters.
Over 50 artists will be creating original works in the White Bear Lake Armory gymnasium during Art Watch. The community is invited to watch the artists work July 12-13.
"We wanted an event that is inclusive of all the different mediums we offer here," said Suzi Hudson, the center's director.
The gymnasium will be transformed into separate studio spaces for the artists. Hudson hopes people who attend Art Watch will interact with the artists and that local artists will meet each other and fans of their work.
"Our main goal is to create a community among local artists," Hudson said.
On July 14, the space will be transformed into a gallery and gala space to show off the works.
The gala event will feature auctions, live music and art demonstrations. All the pieces created during the week will be up for auction.
Those who attend also will have access to information on classes and services the art center offers.
"I'm hoping to really excite the community about the Art Center," Hudson said.
