The White Bear Center for the Arts and Iron Head Sculptural Services invites the public to its annual Iron Pour to help us celebrate artwork made by YOU, the community. A roaring, flame-shooting furnace will turn 1,000 pounds of recycled iron into artwork of YOUR DESIGN in the form of a 3-D sculpture or a 10" x 10" iron tile. This opportunity is family friendly, appropriate for all ages, and for those without any previous experience. This event draws a crowd of all ages to downtown White Bear Lake every year so come early, enjoy dinner at one of our WBL restaurants and join us for a night to remember.

Special sandblocks made of sand and an organic binder are available for only $60 members/$75 non-members and includes class instruction on how to carve your design and the use of our carving tools. Sandblocks must be carved in advance of the Iron Pour. Carving a design is easy and fun for the whole family.

This event is held in collaboration with WASHINGTON SQUARE BAR & GRILL and the CITY OF WHITE BEAR LAKE. Thanks to our partners in art.

When is iron gold? When the WBCA is having an Iron Pour! We need your old cast iron radiators. Call 651.407.0597 and we’ll arrange for a pickup.

Create a 10”x10” iron tile for the garden, as a house marker, memorial or unique indoor art! Learn to carve a sandblock mold that will be cast with molten iron at the Iron Pour on August 23. The sandblocks are easy to carve and make a great project to work on with a friend or family member. Many of the most “successful” tiles from past pours were the simplest designs. The tuition is for one tile, but students may purchase more than one sandblock mold to create a series or “mosaic” of tiles. Limited number available.

Iron for the Children Project

As part of Earth Day on April, 2006, we poured tiles for a community art piece made by the children of East Metro Women’s Council. This was a collaborative project involving the White Bear Center for the Arts, Tamarack Nature Center, East Metro Women’s Council, and FEFA, and was made possible in part by funds provided by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council through a grant from The McKnight Foundation and an appropriation from the Minnesota Legislature.
