Sunday Still-Life: Close-ups and farther out!
Judith Blain
Take the still life a step further by either zooming in on a specific area, or by zooming out to include other parts of the surroundings. By zooming in, negative and positive shapes become more important, texture becomes more dominant, and you may find yourself painting more tightly. By backing away, additional interior space can be included in the painting. The instructor sometimes
uses photos of interiors from magazines, but also works from photos of kitchen tables, workshops, fishing tackle, or the corner of a dusty barn window. Remember - use anything that isn't moving!
